Shivhar
Project Title:
Shivhar WSS – Water Pipeline Network Digitization and Mapping
Client
State Water and Sanitation Mission (SWSM), Uttar Pradesh
Description:
The Shivhar project involved the digitization and mapping of a water pipeline network for a semi-urban area using QGIS. The primary objective was to create an accurate and attribute-rich GIS layer from CAD drawings to support urban planning, infrastructure maintenance, and decision-making.
Starting with base CAD files, the data was georeferenced to UTM Zone 44N (EPSG:32244) and converted into shapefiles. Topological corrections were made to ensure clean geometry, followed by the addition of key attributes such as pipe material, diameter, and flow direction. Symbology was applied for easy visual interpretation, and the final outputs were exported as KML for use in Google Earth, along with high-resolution PDF map layouts for field teams and stakeholders.
Tools & Technologies Used:
- QGIS 3.x
- AutoCAD (DWG/DXF)
- Google Earth Pro
- Python (Field Calculator automation)
- EPSG:32244 – UTM Zone 44N
Key Features:
- Accurate conversion of CAD to GIS pipeline layers
- Custom symbology for pipe types and zones
- Clean attribute table with automated calculations
- KML export for interactive 2D viewing in Google Earth
